I’m headed to Austin, TX Wednesday for the WEC race. I’ll be commuting daily out west to the dam area where my cousin lives, so free accommodations! This’ll be my first time to Austin and I’ll have some free times Thursday and Friday. What to see or eat?
I’ll be renting a mid sized or standard size car “similar to a Jetta” on my list of things to to is play a round of Disc Golf, geocache, BBQ, & Beer.
With a good drive either way around the city I figure I could get some sight seeing in. Thanks

Ballet Austin is doing a production of Prokofiev’s Romeo and Juliet which opens on Friday night. I’ll be in the pit! Though that’s probably not up your alley.
Aside from the ballet, get yourself some brisket while you’re here. Salt Lick is the famous place, but I’m pretty fond of Rudy’s. There’s one on 360. A visit to the Texas State Capitol is worth your time. They say everything is bigger in TX, and the statehouse is larger than the US Capitol.

The drive is meh for scenery, but it’s an easy one. The Oklahoma welcome center has great bathrooms and a huge moose head hanging on the wall. So yeah, endure the drive, and enjoy the visit. Oh, and Austin traffic sucks.Get there and then stay off the highway until you leave.

It’s a must to drive The Three Sisters!
Then buy a tacky shirt.

I can’t believe chariot didn’t invite you to stop in Dallas to see us! :)
Let us know if you need a lunch break here — we have some decent BBQ and better TexMex.

I didn’t know till this morning! You’re right though, I should have thought of that. One thing we do have to offer is food!

Well I’m not going anywhere, and I need any excuse I can get to eat out. Right now, I’m doing my usual freezer meal thing. :|

You ever get out to Cars & Cannoli? Am going to try to make it on Saturday. I usually skip Cars and Coffee since it can be such a cluster#$^*.

Peter pan mini-golf is right down town and BYOB (no glass).
For beer, a fun place to check out is Pinthouse Pizza:
It’s a pizza place that is also a microbrewery. And everything is really good. Expect it to be super packed around dinner, so plan on going for lunch, or after the dinner crowd begins to thin out (like after 8pm).

Tell me more of this meeting of which you speak. I am half Italian, and have suffered greatly lo these many years in Dallas for lack of a good cannoli. I usually have to go back East for one.
I might be able to go. I keep meaning to go C&C and always have my morning spoken for when the time comes.

Thanks. That’s okay, any cannoli is better than no cannoli.

I’ll put it this way, when I’m driving solo it’s to stop for the bare minimum. I stopped outside OK on the MO side for a bite to eat, then straight through OK, across TX border for gas then all the way to Austin. In Dallas at 5pm traffic.
13h 45m or so. If I would have packed s lunch I wouldn’t have stopped for food, but maybe a rest stop.
With the construction I almost got squeezed into the barrier when a lane abruptly closed and I was about to pass a semi in Temple.
Other than that it was non-eventful.

I do the same when I’m alone. Sorry you got caught in our traffic, but glad you got there safely.

So, I’m thinking I’ll go this Saturday, but the website has me kind of nervous that this is some swanky, exclusive event. Do you know if common riff raff like me and my daughter are welcome to gawk at the automotive nobility?

I forget, what car did you end up buying? Because they definitely don’t just let people walk in. But if you really want to go and your car doesn’t qualify, I’m pretty sure I’m going and we could meet someplace near there and you can just ride in with me.

I have a Kia K900. It’s a luxury car, but certainly nothing that would get me an exhibitor invite. I sent off an email asking if I would be welcome. From what you say, I’m guessing that’ll be a “no”. But I’m not above riding your coat tails, if you’re willing.
